Groupe Castel Malawi and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced the start of the Carlsberg Cup 2017 Edition at a press conference on May 30th. The Carlsberg Cup which runs from 10 June to 9 September is an exciting knock-out cup in which Lower league and Super league teams all get to compete for the ultimate prize, MK12 million.

Runner ups receive various cash prizes and furthermore awards and recognition is given to players such as Discovery of the Tournament. The Carlsberg Cup supports national football development by exposing and unearthing young talent, with players who have participated, being recruited into professional football clubs.

The cup also encourages fair play among participants. This helps bring discipline and professionalism to football in Malawi. The Carlsberg Cup was relaunched in 2012, after a 10 year hiatus.
